#ArtLitPhx: Four Chambers Presents Get Lit: Capitalism

Inspired by the literary and philosophical salons of 17th century France, Four Chambers presents Get Lit: Capitalism. Every month, Four Chambers hosts a night of conversation, community, and drinking with Phoenix Poet Laureate and ASU Lecturer of English Rosemarie Dombrowski, PhD.

This month’s event will take place Thursday, October 5th, from 7pm to 8pm. It will be held in the Reading Room inside the Rose Room at Valley Bar (Basement, 130 North Central Avenue, Phoenix, AZ 85004). Valley Bar is located on Monroe St down the alley between Central and 1st Ave. Space is limited, so arrive early to make sure you can get a seat!

This month’s discussion topic is capitalism. Four Chambers writes, “What is the ideology of capitalism? What are the material realities underlying our social, cultural, and artistic forms? What is the relationship of literary devices like plot, character, and structure to the larger economic system? What are our alternatives? What comes next?”

#ArtLitPhx: Rosemarie Dombrowski presents “The Art of Memory in 750 Words or Less”

Rosemarie DombrowskiRosemarie Dombrowski will be hosting a two-part writing workshop on flash memoir, titled “The Art of Memory in 750 Words or Less.” The workshop will take place at Changing Hands in Tempe from 6pm to 8pm on September 11 and September 25. Admission is $35 for both sessions.

During the first class, attendees will read and discuss examples of flash fiction and participate in a writing exercise. They will then receive a take-home writing prompt. In the second class, attendees will workshop their new, original piece of flash memoir and receive individualized feedback.

Rosemarie Dombrowski is a writer with a long list of accomplishments. She is the co-founder of the Phoenix Poetry Series, a poetry editor for Four Chambers Press, the founder of Rinky Dink Press, a three-time Pushcart nominee, and the inaugural Phoenix Poet Laureate. She is also a Senior Lecturer at Arizona State University’s Downtown campus. You can read more about her accomplishments on her website.

#ArtLitPhx: Community, Culture, & Art: the Downtown Creative Showcase

Community-The-DowntownCreativeArizona State University Downtown Student Showcase features poets, fiction writers, spoken word artists, and filmmakers. This bi-annual event takes place on Thursday, November 17 at The Grand Central Coffee Company (718 N Central Ave, Phoenix 85004) at 7 p.m. The performers include Megan Condeno Atencia, Sawyer Elms, Daniela Diaz, Anna Flores, Nick Pesch, Amanda Astrid Peterson, Richard Sais, Tonissa Saul, Mathias Session, and Kellen Shover. #ArtLitPhx: Launch of the ASU DPC/Lawn Gnome Poetry + Public Art Project

Join ASU students and local visual artists on Friday, November 4 at 7 p.m. for the Launch of the ASU DPC/Lawn Gnome Poetry + Public Art Project event. The event takes place at Lawn Gnome Books (905 N 5th St, Phoenix, AZ).

Eight undergraduate poets on the DPC (under the direction of Rosemarie Dombrowski) produced poems under 25 words inspired by the city, its the desert ecology, and the people who inhabit it.  The students will read for ten minutes of any literary work of their choice. Local artists then came together (under the organization of Aaron Johnson) to produce corresponding artwork.  Both the poems and the artwork will be painted onto eight 8’x4’ boards that will be installed at Lawn Gnome Books and unveiled on the First Friday.

The eight ASU Downtown campus poets are Megan Atencia, Sawyer Elms, Daniela Diaz, Anna Florez, Mandy Peterson, Richard Sais, Matthew Session, and Kellen Shover.

The reading will be followed by a Q & A with the poets and artists.  The event is free and open to the public. For more information, please visit the Facebook event.

#ArtLitPhx: In Sight Live Reading and Panel

Four Chambers_book cover_printEye lounge and Four Chambers worked together to pair 11 local authors with 11 eye lounge artists to produce original literary responses to the artists work. After months of coffee, conversation, studio visits and mutual making of art, the end result, In Sight: An Ekphrastic Collaboration between eye lounge and Four Chambers Press is 8″ x 8″, 128 pages long, and features 20 works of art , 7 poems, 3 short stories and 1 mixed media work.

In Sight will be displayed from March 18th through April 10th, 2016 at eye lounge gallery and artspace (419 E Roosevelt, Phoenix, AZ 85004) with a live performance at the Newton (300 W Camelback Rd, Phoenix, AZ 85013) on Saturday, April 16th at 4 pm.
