An Interview with Allison Moyers

Allison Moyers is an oil painter and video artist from Texas who currently lives and works in Phoenix Arizona. She traveled Europe and lived in France for five years where she received her bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts from ESAD de Valenciennes in 2015. Her work explores the subjects of stardom, vanity, and excess within society with an emphasis on woman and the feminine. She is fascinated by western culture’s obsession with beauty in film, literature, and classic painting that have created idealized versions of reality. The stylized and romanticized art are indispensable elements in her work and correspond to the methodic use of color that expresses human emotions through their psychological representation.

In this post, we feature a short film made by Allison as she tours her art and answers questions from our Issue 28 Art Editor, Khanh Nguyen.

This reminded me of the time I used to work with oil pastels and it inspires me to go back and create more art.

I would encourage anyone who likes art to check out the link for Moyers’ website! She truly has some fantastic stuff, and the video really helps explain how she connects her paintings to the real world.

Allyson Moyers’s artwork is so beautiful. I love how she took several black and white photos from her inspiration period (Old Hollywood) and recreated them in bright beautiful colors and through a slightly different lens. I don’t know much about art but her reasoning for creating her art is important and necessary in today’s world.

These paintings are mesmerizing! They remind me a lot of F Scott Fitzgerald’s books. We need him to rise from the dead and finish The Last Tycoon so Allison Moyers can do the cover art.

I loved the mention of voyeurism – vibes real well with the use of Hollywood as inspiration! I definitely felt it in the paintings at 0:40 and 1:00 with the water/tear streaks cutting through the figures.

This is incredible! For anyone looking into a similar career path, this is the perfect glimpse into what you can expect to experience. I also admire the idea of getting the artist’s intention despite art being so versatile in that it allows for multiple interpretations.

I love that the women in each of her paintings are representations of different parts of herself! I find that a lot of writing comes from our own experiences in some way or another so it’s interesting to see how it manifests in art to.

I love seeing the creative twist that Allison Moyer’s incorporates into her art, especially those that are recreated. I’m especially happy that she was able to work on her art in France. I can imagine how the culture helped mold her path.
