Why is it called the Gulf Coast Poetry prize when you’re in Arizona. I know Lake Michigan is on occasion called the Third Coast.
It is not our literary magazine that is hosting the event. We like to spread the word to our readers about great opportunities that other literary magazines offer as well.
Any new or emerging writer trying to get published will tell you how incredibly difficult and overwhelming at times it can be to try and stay on top of deadlines, submission guidelines, preferences, and rules of the road for all of the amazing literary magazines and journals out there. I think the level of community in the literary world is commendable; everyone spreading the word about contests and submission deadlines for the magazines that they respect is evidence of a growing and thriving field that is utilizing the internet in wonderful ways.
Why would it cost more to submit online? I wonder…
Thomas, I think Gulf Coast Mag. is out of Texas.
Usually the submission costs cover a subscription cost as well. I’m not sure why they would increase the charge for online submissions. Perhaps quality control? That’d be a great question for Gulf Coast.
