Four Palaces Publishing is currently open to submissions for their fiction anthology contest. They are searching for short stories between 2,000 and 6,000 words long. They will also accept up to three flash fiction pieces. The theme of their anthology is “Desire to Escape.” The author of the winning story will receive $1,000 and a mentorship from guest judge Ivelisse Rodriguez, whose short story collection Love War Stories was a 2019 PEN/Faulkner finalist and a 2018 Foreword Reviews INDIES finalist.

Founded in 2021, Four Palaces’ goal is to promote and publish works by previously unpublished writers from underrepresented communities.

Frederick Tran is the executive director and publisher of Four Palaces. Emily Townsend is the managing editor, and her nonfiction piece “Consider the Honeybee” appeared in Issue 19 of Superstition Review.

Submissions close August 31, 2022! Go here to submit your story.

I find their theme “Desire to Escape” to be interactive and makes m interested to see what writers can come up with. Especially because they publish work from unpublished writers and underrepresented communities.

I enjoy how the blog promotes other publishing opportunities for its readers and creates connections with publishers. This is very important for s[r]’s trainees and interns since it creates career connections outside of ASU and it builds the magazine’s platform. Those who are familiar with Four Palaces Publishing are likely to take a look at our blog as well which builds professional relationships.

I think that it is really cool that SR promotes other publishing sites within our own. I think the prompt for the contest as well as the prizes would interest a lot of other students or patrons of SR and I think it is important to keep including posts such as these.

We’re always looking to connect the literary community by promoting other magazines, especially new ones like Four Palaces Publishing and Equatorial (Equatorial’s submissions are still open, too)!

I really like the theme “Desire to Escape.” I think it is something that resonates with many writers. It is also great that the prize includes a mentorship from Ivelisse Rodriguez; that sort of experience is invaluable, especially to new writers.
