Winter 2016 Theme: Evolving Islands
We are seeking submissions of original fiction, poetry, and essays on the theme of “Evolving Islands” for our winter 2016 issue. Islands are dynamic geographical entities. They appear and disappear on a regular basis due to volcanic activity and changes in sea level. Their ecosystems are volatile. Some islands are covered in ice or snow. Some are inhabited only by wild horses or pigs. Some islands are artificial. Some are imaginary.
Find more theme details on our website: newmadridjournal.org.
Submission Deadline: October 15, 2015.

This is an awesome opportunity for people to get real creative with real life events and happenings.
This is a really interesting theme, I think it will evoke some great works. I’ll be on the lookout for this issue to see what stories made it in!
It’ll be interesting to see what comes out of this! I think themes like this challenge writers while also helping them focus on something, which can be hard to do. Looking forward to it.
What a great topic and idea generator. I can’t wait to read the different stories that this theme helps to produce. Just reading the description of this theme, it feels so surreal and filled with so much emotional weight. I am sure the stories that come from this theme will be memorable.
