Deborah Bogen is the author of three prize-winning works: Living by the Children’s Cemetery (2000 Byline Press), Landscape With Silos (2006 Texas Review Press) and the forthcoming Let Me Open You a Swan (April 2010, Elixir Press). Her poetry and reviews appear widely in journals like Crazyhorse, The Iowa Review, New Letters, The Georgia Review, Shenandoah, The Gettysburg Review and others. For the past 10 years she’s conducted free writing workshops in her Pittsburgh living room.

Michael SchmeltzerMichael Schmeltzer earned an MFA from the Rainier Writing Workshop at Pacific Lutheran University. He helps edit A River & Sound Review and is a two-time nominee of the Pushcart Prize. His work has been published in New York Quarterly, Los Angeles Review, Water~Stone Review, Hawaii Pacific Review, and Fourteen Hills, among others.

SR Pod/Vod Series: Poet Shannon Ward

Each Tuesday we feature audio or video of an SR Contributor reading their work. Today we’re proud to feature a podcast by Shannon Ward.

Raised in a renovated slaughterhouse on the outskirts of Wilmington, Ohio, Shannon Ward is currently working on her first collection, Blood Creek. She received an MFA in Poetry from North Carolina State University in 2009 and currently teaches composition at her undergraduate alma mater, Methodist University in Fayetteville. She is the recipient of a 2011 Vermont Studio Center Artist’s Grant, the 2009 Bruce and Marge Petesch Fellowship, and the 2007 Longleaf Press Writing Award. Her work has appeared in Tar River Poetry, Marginalia, and Burdock.

Each Tuesday we feature audio or video of an SR Contributor reading their work. Today we’re proud to feature a podcast by Aaron Fagan.

Aaron Fagan was born in Rochester, New York, in 1973 and was educated at Hampshire College and Syracuse University. He has lived in Chicago and New York City, serving as an Assistant Editor for Poetry Magazine and as a Copy & Research Editor for Scientific American respectively.

He is the author of two poetry collections: Garage (Salt Publishing, Cambridge, 2007) and Echo Train (Salt Publishing, London, 2010) and he has recited his work for the Harold Clurman Poetry Reading Series at The Stella Adler Studio of Acting. He lives in Victor, New York. Photo credit: Angela Strassheim.

Sarah Pape lives in Northern California and teaches English at California State University, Chico. Her poetry has recently been published in The Southeast ReviewHayden’s Ferry ReviewWatershed and Cadence of Hooves: A Celebration of Horses. Her chapbook, Road Z, was published by Yarroway Mountain Press. Committed to community arts and literary collaboration, she is on the board of the 1078 Gallery and leads creative writing workshops.
